57 Chevy Pickups
Chevy pickup trucks of 1957 can trace its beginnings all the way back to the 1900s!
Birth of Chevy Pickup Trucks
The birth of the first Chevy pickup trucks thanks to William Durant and Louis Chevrolet made its first appearance in 1918. William Durant and Louis Chevrolet started selling Chevrolet’s around 1911. After being fired by GM William Durant was said not to be (suitable to head GM).
Chevy’s “Bowtie” Logo
First appeared in 1913 and of course is still very famous today. Where the logo came from is up for debate. A lot of different stories surround the famous Chevrolet “Bowtie” logo. One of the stories says Durant had seen it in a French hotel wallpaper design and liked it very much. Some say it was borrowed from the logo for Coalettes. And what may be the real truth is the logo could have arisen from the Swiss cross because Chevrolet’s parent came from Switzerland.
Another interesting part of the story is the Chevrolet had so much success from 1916 to 1918 they bought a nice chunk of General Motors. And the really funny part is they merged which put Durant back the helm of the company that fired him.
The First Chevy Pickups
Chevy Pickups buyers of the early truck would only get a chassis and cowl for their money. They would have to build their own pickup body and cabs or get someone to build it for them. The 1957 Chevy Pickup turned out to be the honey of the truck maker industry.
57 Chevy Pickups had Performance and Style
In 1957 scored a winning touchdown with performance and style not seen in trucks by General Motors to date. The goal of GM was no frills and real performance, with trucks designed to work and not just look fancy in the driveway.
The famous American car history can thank Harley J. Earl for his contribution to the American truck history. A top car designer in the mid 50s produced much success with the stylized version of the 1957 Chevy Pickups, still a recognized symbol in the industry. 57 Chevy Pickups are collected and loved by connoisseurs on every continent of the world today.
