Chevy 4 Door
In 1957 you could always tell it was a 4 door model because of the post between the front and back door windows. There was no post on the 2 door model.
In 1955 Chevrolet produced the first of the famous small block V-8’s at 265 cubic inches of raw power. Prior to this the only engine options were the straight 6 cylinder which 2 come to mind a 230 cubic inch and a little bigger model the 250 cubic inch.
With a brand new small block V-8 in the inventory Chevrolet wanted to produce a brand new car design to put it in. So General Motors worked toward bringing out a new design for 1957. With time and money being a problem they ended up with more of the same carry over from 1955 designs.
The updates gave us the Classic 57 Chevy's we all know and love. The famous tailfins and redesigned windscreen plus the redesigned headlight pods where the air ducts were relocated. This all worked together to give us the classic looks that we all know and love today.
It was 1955 that began the motor-sports area of muscle cars. Chevrolet was the big winner at the circle tracks and drag racing strips with no other real competition to stop them.

So the start of the competitive motor-sports era was brought on by Chevrolet starting in 1955.
For 1957 they put the new models out with 14 in. wheels. This was done to give the new model a wider look with the lower stance. A wider grille was added to enhance the wider look.
The Bel-Air body style added gold trim to the grille, all the script and trim was coated with an anodized gold.
