1957 Chevrolet’s Colors

1957 Chevrolet's came in 460 color combination's and this was 96 more than in 1956. Chevrolet was asked why so many different colors? The response was the 1957 Chevy's great styling needs a lot of great new colors to sell them.
Probably the most popular of the 1957 Chevrolet's color combination's was Matador Red on the Bel-Air Convertible. My favorite was the Onyx Black on the Bel-Air Sport Coupe in the 2 door hardtop probably held a close second in the most popular. My second favorite was the 2 door Nomad station wagon in the Tropical Turquoise. My dad had bought one of these when we moved to South Florida in 1958 from St. Augustine. We move down in an old 1948 Coupe this was way back when US 1 did not even go all the way. Part of the trip was on the old 441. You have not lived until you have gone across country in a 1948 Chevy Coupe.
1957 Chevrolets were produced in 15 two tone color combination's and there were 16 solid colors in total. They had some of the strange combinations also like Colonial Cream and a Laurel Green. Who buys strange colors like that? You would think but they did sell and very well for Chevrolet.

1957 Chevrolet Options and Body Styles

Back in the 1950's, the body styles were 2 and 4 door sedans.
The two-door models were the sports coupe and hardtop.
There was also a four-door hardtop; these they called either a utility coupe or a sports sedan.
There were two style packages of the station wagons. First, the Bel-Air, was known as the Nomad or top of the line model. It had a sloped pillar behind the hardtop door plus sliding windows at the rear seat.
The four-door had two seating configurations a six passenger and a 9 passenger model. The 9 passenger was called the Townsman for the 150 series and the Bel-Air was called the Beauville.
Some believe that the 57 Chevy style came from the 1955 Cadillac El Dorado because some part of the designs were similar. Hmm, what do you think?
1957 Chevrolet Options
For luxury and comfort options were added. Air conditioning placed in a padded dash for a few. Power brakes and power steering allowed the ladies to enjoy their driving. An option for a signal seeking radio with a power antenna. You could get power seats and power windows. We love this option! The '57 also got a Hi-Tech option for surround sound. Great a second speaker that had a second volume control next to the radio.
The second Hi-Tech option was what they called an autotronic eye that sensed the light from oncoming traffic and dimmed the headlights automatically. The third Hi-Tech option was a ribbed plastic viewer that was added just above the speedometer. The reason for this was because the roof extended out over the windscreen and made it hard to see overhead traffic lights from the driver seat without leaning over. This Hi-Tech gadget allowed the driver to see the overhead light easier and safer.
1957 Chevy Engine Options
Fuel injection was introduced as an option on the Chevrolet's for the first time. The new 283 V-8 with solid lifters and fuel injection got 283 hp. A lower power model with hydraulic lifters and fuel injection was added giving 250 hp for the less sporty drivers. This made it a little easier to keep in top running condition for the families that were not the race car types that were into tuning all the time.
