57 Chevy Belair is the American Icon
A number of folks would say the 57 Chevy Belair is indeed an American Icon. And many others will agree given the undisputed fact the 57 Chevy Belair outsold Fords by many cars the year of its birth.
The 57 Belair was referred to as “The Baby Cadillac” of the day and one of its memorable ads stated that it was “Sweet, Smooth and Sassy”. Chevy produced the original American dream in 1957 and the fan fair of the day made it the original global dream.
Was it the 57 Chevy Fins?
The 57 Belair American icons were indeed the choice of high school kids from around the globe in the 60s. Was it the love for the car or the 57 Chevy Fins? Still very highly prized collectibles only 47,566 made it out of the GM factories.
Gold like preciousness it is amazing how many of these American icons you can find restored to more than their original glory. Belair began only as a nickname but in the early 50s it stuck and Chevrolet liked it so much the new series line was developed and named Belair.
The most attractive production car of the decade identifiable by the tail fins. The new model was a full 2 ½ longer and was given the appearance of being wider by the big new bumper and grille and smaller 14” wheels.
The 57 Belair starting price, $1095 you almost can’t get a subscription to one of the popular car mags for that today.
The wonderful sound from the dual exhausts of the 57 was referred to as the sound of a cat purring, confirming this was an ad placed in a premier Chevrolet magazine at the time announcing to all that “Chevy puts the purr back in performance”.
The 57 Chevy Belair went on to become one of the most and still is today the collectible post war car history has ever seen.
